Winnipeg Sews Shirts

  • norberry glenlee community centre 26 Molgat Avenue Winnipeg, MB, R2M 1X3 Canada (map)

Tailored shirts can bring out the cold sweats. Let's sweat it out together in a shirt-making intensive.

Soft flannel shirts are wardrobe staples for a good reason: the cotton lasts for years, the style is timeless and the patterns can be as varied as people. A buffalo plaid, a tartan, a stripe or dot will see you through life changes with a sense of whimsy and comfort. Give yourself or another the gift of your time and attention through the medium of shirt-making. With Valentine's Day and Festival du Voyageur hot on the heels of this class, you can surprise your partner with a new shirt, or make something cozy for yourself to wear to Winnipeg's amazing winter festival.

Come join others who love to sew and we'll make some shirts together. I'll be making another Thread Theory Fairfield Button Up for #sewmenswear and #sewmenswearforeveryone

This is a chance to strike that shirt off your Make Nine list and come out 2019 swinging on your sewing goals. The technicality of the sewing is something that you can sink your teeth into. Leveling up your sewing game may mean making the same shirt you usually do, but in silk instead of cotton so that you have the added challenge of working with a shifty fabric. Or maybe just getting that collar right on the first try is your goal this time. Whatever it is, we can do it together and build some community as we all work on our own projects.

In order to get through most of the construction, I suggest you bring your fabric already cut into your pattern pieces. Please bring your paper pattern pieces and instructions as well in case you need to refer back to anything.

What to bring:

  1. Your fabric

  2. Your pattern of choice

  3. Your sewing machine and thread

I'll provide:

  1. A beautiful space for you think create, sew and think

  2. Tips, teaching, encouragement and support

  3. Two ironing stations

  4. A serger to speed construction if you want that

  5. Notions and a cutting area

  6. Catered lunch from Freshii – please let me know if you have any food restrictions/allergies/straight up preferences

Thank you for investing in your craft and yourself as you find joy and fulfillment through creativity! I can’t wait to see you!
