SEW 1-2-3-4

Sew some happiness!

Our exclusive series of garments that will take you everywhere you want to go! Our SEW 1-2-3-4 will arm you with all the sewing knowledge you need to tackle any dream project you have. Let’s make something together that’ll have you smiling for years as you open your closet and get dressed in the morning. Soon, you’ll be looking at people’s pants with a new appreciation for techniques and wondering how that dart is helping to create the shape. You’ll wander around stores thinking, I could make that. And you probably could!

Take flight into the world of sustainable sewing, where we only make what we want to wear and if a person riding by on a fast horse can’t see that mistake, then we don’t worry about it. (Ok, disclaimer, we worry if it’s structural!)

You’ll meet others wanting to know the same things as you and since most people make different versions of the same garment, you get the added value of seeing how different patterns fit, are sewn and what makes each one special. It’s an experience you’ll want to share with a friend, whether they come to class or not. More often than not, group classes create their own friendships that extend far beyond the studio. Some friends are just meant to be!

Classes are taught in rotation and often sell out due to my commitment to quality instruction and small class sizes. If I know you and a friend are coming together, I’ll make sure to put your tables together too. Just send me a heads up!

1. T-Shirt

The humble T-Shirt. We know it’s anything but! After taking this class, you’ll never look at a $2 t-shirt the same way again. Our class teaches you everything you need to know about sewing a t-shirt, and a few other things besides. You’ll be guided to make sure you’ve cut the right size, how to place your pins, what stitch to use on your machine all the way through cutting on grain, making a neckband and hemming your shirt. You can choose any knit or woven t-shirt or tank pattern you’d like. T-shirts that fit your body are in your future!

2. Elastic Pants

Comfy pants, here we come! Pants class gives you a refresher on how to choose a size and cut your fabric, but now we come into pocket territory. Learn how to cut, position and sew your inseam (or otherwise) pockets, how to make sure your pant legs don’t end up twisted, how to sew a waistband or casing and how to get that elastic juuuuusst right for you. We start with elastic waist pants because they have a bit more wiggle room for you to learn. Participants have made everything from sweatpants to wool trousers, the difficulty is up to you!

3. Collared Shirt

After your t-shirt and pants, start to refine your skills further with a collared shirt. You’ll know how to choose a size and cut your fabric by now, so this will introduce you to interfacing, stay-stitching, top-stitching, plackets and collars. Again, choose your own pattern! Darts, camp collar, band collar, tower placket or continuous lap, they all share characteristics that will make the class easy to follow. As different patterns are made each session, participants are able to learn much more as they follow along with what others are making. You’ll be asked to make some progress between each class to stay on schedule.

4. Jeans

I swear, you can do it! By now you have all the skills you need to tackle jeans. Often we’re most concerned about getting the top-stitching just right and the fit close to ideal. Our Skills: Measuring Class will help you get the right size, and the one day jeans class is an intensive that will arm you with tons of tools, tips and knowledge about how to follow a more complicated pattern. Sewing curves, finishing your thick seams, sewing a buttonhole. If you’ve come this far, you’ve already done all of that! Enjoy the class as you gain more confidence in your ability to read the pattern and complete the steps. Your jeans await!
