how it works

The annual WS fabric swap is an opportunity to redistribute the fabrics already in Winnipeg. You pay a one time ticket price for entrance to the event, then can snag a bagful of fabrics for your new projects. No further price to the fabrics once you enter!

This has become a fixture in our community, but if it’s your first time, here’s how it goes.

Fabrics are donated by you, measured, tagged and organized by me, and then taken home by someone else! Everyone wins, especially our environment, as our existing fabric gets circulated in the community, reducing the need to purchase new fabrics.

You are not required to come if you donate and you are not required to donate to come.

Each $20 ticket gives you the opportunity to stuff a bag full of fabrics and other goodies. Bring your own reusable bag!

Ticketed entry is required. You’ll be required to check in when you arrive and checkout before you go so we can keep track of what fabrics have left. Obviously the earlier you arrive, the better selection you’ll have, including all the wools, silks, cottons and first crack at our pattern selection.

Donations are now closed

Donations are now CLOSED for the swap. Please keep your fabrics for next year when you can put together your clean, unscented, good condition fabric to drop off at the studio during our open hours. No appointment necessary, but of course you’ll have to call me to let me know you’ve arrived. I won’t be accepting fabrics that don’t meet the above conditions.

1. Wash and dry your fabrics, make sure they are SCENT FREE

2. Double check them for stains and rips

3. Bring them to the studio and drop them off for me to measure

4. Buy your ticket to the swap night

5. Bring your reusable bag to shop and go home with some new treasures.

What do you accept?

All fabric types and yardage are accepted at the swap!
You can also bring patterns, notions, trims, threads, zippers and more! We’ll have a whole table of notions and more for you to choose from! Maybe you’ll find your perfect buttons or that vintage lace perfect for dyeing.

I label, measure and tag every single piece of fabric that comes in the doors so you can be sure to have a pleasant shopping experience. The tables are labeled and you get a little map of the space explaining how things are organized so you can go directly to the type of fabric you’d like. When you’re ready to check out our barcode system will make the process easier than ever. Our checkout volunteers will scan your items and you’ll be on your way!
